An Interview with Pew Hispanic on Latinos and Identity - Why Labels Don’t Fit

Best Practices in Reaching the Hispanic Community with Important Health Messages
This week I had the opportunity to present at Hispanicize 2012 with Liliam Sanchez-Acosta, the Director of Latino Outreach at the March of Dimes. Lilliam provided an overview of March of Dimes' nacersano program, how Hispanic outreach efforts have evolved over time, and shared all the different components of their web and print offerings.
Thereafter, I shared three areas of best practice that the March of Dimes’ program reflects, namely:
- audience focus,
- culturally-relevant design and content, and
- effective use of social media.

Bixal Presenting at Hispanicize with March of Dimes’ nacersano Hispanic Outreach Program
This next week, Bixal is teaming up with the March of Dimes to do a presentation at Hispanicize 2012 in Miami. Carla will be presenting with Lilliam Acosta-Sanchez, the Director of the March of Dime's Hispanic Outreach program - nacersano.

The Hispanic Community by the Numbers
On February 29th, we had the opportunity to host Lisa Sturtevant from George Mason University at our Reaching Latinos Online series. Lisa, who is an assistant research professor at the George Mason University School of Public Policy (SPP) and a researcher at the Center for Regional Analysis, did a presentation on where to obtain publically available data on the Hispanic community and how to use it to better understand this growing and diverse community.

Lisa provided a detailed overview of what types of data can be obtained from the following three data sources:
- U.S. Census Bureau
- U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
- Pew Hispanic Center
