Capital Camp DC - Highlighting Drupal Adoption by Government Agencies
July 25, 2011 :: Posted by: Carla Briceno
This past Friday and Saturday, we had the opportunity to participate in Capital Camp DC, an event organized by a number of great people from the greater DC area. A good portion of the event and the sessions focused on the government's increased adoption of Drupal and a number of sessions looked at related considerations.
On Friday am, Tom Cochran from the White House and Jason Hoekstra from the Department of Education both talked about the benefits of using Drupal and collaborating with the large and growing Drupal community. Tom highlighted how using Drupal has allowed the White House to promote openness and transparency, and Jason cited the following reasons for choosing Drupal in particular: cost savings, technical capabilities, innovativeness and a passionate community.
On Saturday, Jeff Robbins from Lullabot gave the audience a tour of a number of excellent Drupal sites spanning many different industries, from a "local site" as he joked, www.whitehouse.gov to www.ubuntu.com. He also shared the site france.fr to demonstrate Drupal's excellent localization features. Then in the second half of his presentation, he built a Drupal ecommerce site in about 25 minutes!
Although we do use other technologies at Bixal, we have implemented a number of Drupal sites and particularly like it for its flexibility, its internationalization and localization capabilities to develop bilingual and multilingjual sites, and the incredible Drupal open source community that has made it such a strong technology.
Thank you to all of those who helped make this event happen, including the sponsors and organizers! We look forward to developing many more Drupal sites and contributing to the community.
